I would give this book 5 stars on its own. But if you own their first book, “Dream Homes”, then you already have much of this book. I was so looking forward to browsing through this book when I suddenly realized a lot of it was familiar. I then pulled the first book from the shelf and saw so many of the same pictures over and over again. Big disappointment. I felt deceived – so I am returning it.

If you don’t already own “Dream Homes”, then I highly recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.

It gets you in the right mind set for starting to think about designing your own home. Practical, with lots of images that contain useful suggestions. Start with this book, then buy others.

This edition is a comlete re-write from the version I bought in 2002.

This book is an excellent reference for decorating a private
home. It describes flexible living quarters, work at home and
family quarters. There is a basic budget model, as well as
provision for more elaborate and expensive customizations.
The work contains an extensive materials directory which is
useful for deciding upon the material components and pricing
structure. Both form and function are described in detail.
There are contrasting arguments for employing vulcanized
rubber, plastics and marble. The book is excellent if it is
utilized wisely in connection with planned home designs.

However, Fry's Electronics has units that use electricity and have one or two 4" hoses that must reach outside air somehow. I do know that a unit MUST have a rating of more than 5,000 BTU. 5K BTU just wont cool anything. 7.5 and more , prefer 10,000 BTU. It can always shut off once in a while. If you are dealing with two computers driving you out of a bedroom/office the problem is different. My central A/C just blows across the ceiling of the room and circulates the cold air back to the hall and re-circuates it. The heat does not leave the room! I bought, for about five bucks, a recreational vehicle sewer hose from Wal-Mart, for about five bucks. I super glued the hose to the hot air outlet at the back of the computer. I piped the air out of the room, right through the wall to outside air. I used a one - way flapper valve that is made to exhaust clothes dryer air out of a exterior wall. It worked like a charm. Before this we had to cool the whole house to about 68 degrees so that the computer room was cool enough. Saved about two hundred dollars a month in this Sacramento area. Never heard of such a thing.
